Candlelight Ball

Thank you for helping us celebrate 30 years of supporting The Research Foundation! Friends and supporters raised more than $115,000 in net proceeds for health education and scholarship programs at the 30th anniversary of the Candlelight Ball Saturday, November 5.

The Candlelight Ball is a biennial, black-tie gala that includes a cocktail reception, five-course gourmet dinner and dancing. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Foundation’s programs like ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City, the Young Traffic Offenders Program, undergraduate nursing scholarships, nursing faculty development opportunities and continuing medical education for local doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Molly Hein, a senior at Research College of Nursing and recipient of two undergraduate nursing student scholarships from the Foundation, began the evening by reflecting on her experiences as a nursing student and the support she has received from Foundation donors.

More than $8,000 of the net proceeds were raised through the “Golden Ticket” raffle. The raffle offered guests the opportunity to win a basket of local merchandise valued at more than $6,500.  The winner of the “Golden Ticket” basket was Bob Fisher with Heartland Electric Corporation.

The event’s major underwriting sponsor was Research Medical Center who provided André’s truffles to each guest to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Other major sponsors included the Cusser Family Fund, UMB Bank, JE Dunn Construction Company, LapCorp, David E. Ross Construction, Waddell & Reed, Anesthesia Associates of Kansas City, PC, Tom and Muffet Harmon, Heartland Electric Corporation, Husch Blackwell and Walgreens.

Dr. Andrew and Anne Cusser served as chairs for the event and Dr. Austin and Mandy Lehr served as co-chairs.
